May 2025A little gem
Churchfield cottage is perfectly situated to enjoy what Appledore has to offer and Appledore and its surrounding area have plenty to offer. Sally, the owner, is a very thoughtful host whose attention to details, has made our stay even better. Thank you to her for leaving for us so many little goodies including a bottle of sparkling wine. Everything was well done and the house was very clean with a view onto the harbour. We loved watching people fish during the day and in the evening. We saw someone catch two dogfish one evening. We tried most of Sally's recommendations including one evening when we went to the Seagate for the music evening for the locals. So much fun! They have the best mussels I have ever eaten and the wine selection is truly amazing. We also tried the Yard and had a lovely meal there (recommended by Jeremy Vines, a well-known British journalist, in an article he wrote about why he loves Appledore). Instow, a short boat ride to the other side of the estuary, has a spectacular beach. But one of my favourite places was Clovelly Harbour. We arrived there really early before the crowd. It was like going back in time and the coast path is breathtaking. Thank you again Sally for letting use your lovely cottage.”
