Description

Beachfront Bliss at the idyllic Great Mackerel Beach | Sydney

Nestled in the heart of Pittwater’s serene coastline, "Bliss" offers a truly unique escape where nature and comfort come together. This eco-friendly beach retreat, originally built in 1961 by Mr. & Mrs. Anderson, is aptly named for the feeling it evokes—complete relaxation, rejuvenation, and a chance to reconnect with simpler times. With a secluded beach as your front yard and unobstructed views of Pittwater framed by the lush greenery of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, this is a perfect getaway for families, couples, or solo travelers seeking tranquility.

Upon arrival, you'll immediately sense the magic of this place as you can catch a punt from Palm Beach that drops you on the sand right in front of the house or you can catch the historic ferry called "Myra" to the wharf just along the beach. The house itself is a delightful blend of nostalgia and modern convenience. The interior maintains its original 1960s charm, with a lovingly restored retro kitchen stocked with everything needed to prepare gourmet meals. The main house includes two cozy bedrooms—one with a queen bed and another with bunk beds—making it ideal for families. Meanwhile, the Parent’s Retreat on the lower level, accessible by external stairs, offers a private sanctuary complete with an en-suite and a private deck for morning coffee with ocean views.

The outdoor experience is equally captivating. Spend your days lounging on the main deck or take just a few steps down to the beach where you’ll find kayaks, watercraft, and inflatable toys to enjoy. The boat shed, one of only two directly on the beach, serves as a gym, a home office, and an outdoor entertaining area, complete with a bar fridge and hotplate for impromptu beachside picnics. Whether you’re savoring cocktails under the ancient frangipani trees or enjoying a cozy winter evening by the sandstone fireplace with a glass of red wine, "Bliss" invites you to slow down and savor every moment.

Great Mackerel Beach offers a range of outdoor activities for every type of traveler. Explore the pristine wilderness of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on a bushwalk, where you can discover ancient Aboriginal rock art and breathtaking coastal views. Take a kayak out onto Pittwater and glide through its calm, clear waters, or simply relax on the sand with a good book. For those who enjoy dining out, a short ferry ride will bring you to Palm Beach, known for its charming cafes and waterfront restaurants perfect for a leisurely lunch.

In addition to beachside relaxation, guests can also enjoy scenic boat trips, birdwatching, and photography in this picturesque region. Whether it’s hiking through forested trails, spotting wildlife, or indulging in a sunset picnic by the water, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.
